In France, where my sister lives with her family (including two school-age children), early September is known as la rentrée, and it’s a Big Deal. It’s when everything picks up again after the two-month break that is summer holiday season (see just how deserted Paris gets in this video).
Here, at The Step Up Your Game headquarters, however, September is known as la time to “shift into high gear.”
It’s the time when I take a hard look at my progress – Am I on track with my goals? Has this year been what I wanted? What can I do better? – and recommit to shifting into high gear.
More than ever, it’s easy to get off track in this multi-distractional (I just made that up!) world we live in. If you haven’t made the progress you wanted with the ambitious goals and plans you set at the beginning of the year, it’s understandable. There’s always something – the unexpected work project, illness or injury, family issues – causing obstacles and setbacks.
And the last thing you feel like doing when you’re stressed and overwhelmed is taking a close, critical look at your behaviors and figuring out what to change. But that’s the only way to get different results.
That’s why some of the most uber-accomplished people seek the help of a coach. (Remember my post on surgeon Atul Gawande?) Not only does coaching offer access to specific expertise and knowledge that you would have to study for years to learn, it provides an environment of support and accountability that helps you bust out of a rut and stay on track when life gets hairy. (Psst, it’s also kind of fun.)
If you’re tired of going it alone and struggling to get motivated, joining with a group of like-minded high-achievers can make the crucial difference between sticking to your game plan or putting it off to another day. To help you, I’m launching the Step Up Your Game Coaching Intensive on October 6th.
Here’s what a previous SUYG graduate says: “As an entrepreneur, my challenge is staying on track to get the important things done, I become sidetracked to avoid those important things. In the past, this kept me from taking advantage of opportunities quickly. In order to get to the next level, I knew I needed to make a change.
As a result of going through the SUYG program, I now have a set of very practical techniques for being more productive, gaining confidence, going outside my comfort zone, and bouncing back from setbacks. The camaraderie and support of the group was encouraging. I was not alone with my challenges and I could share my successes!”
If you harness the power of laser-focus and momentum to kick it up a notch, you can achieve more in the next eight weeks than you have in the last nine months — seriously.
